Kiddy Kats Photography is based in Ferntree Gully, in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne where Michelle (photographer/owner) grew up.
"Over the years I have seen this area go from quite run-down to an area seeked by families. Ferntree Gully has always been an area with a lot of young families, but it slowly has become much more sought-after along with the neighbouring suburbs such as Wantirna, Boronia, and Rowville. People are renovating the old homes while others are being knocked down and new homes built. The great thing is that there are still large blocks of land in the area, giving children the perfect amount of space to be kids and play.
There is also an abundance of outdoor areas for families to enjoy - local parks with children's play equipment and others that have great walking trails, including fantastic dog parks! I've always loved that the Dandenong Ranges are just a short drive away and I have fond childhood memories of driving around the mountains. These days I still love spending time in the hills, either driving around or going for walks with my fiancee. For all these reasons I choose to use areas in Olinda for my Sunset Family Sessions. It offers such a picturesque backdrop and I feel I'm also offering my customers a bit of a tourist experience at the same time! Locals often haven't explored these nearby parks and those travelling a bit further fall in the love with the area just as I have! Even after many photography sessions I still take a second to stop and take in the stunning view and marvel at how pretty it is.
I really enjoy getting to know the people in the Ferntree Gully area and beyond. This is a strong part of why I love what I do - getting to know families, hearing couples stories of how they met, meeting their children and learning of their little individual personalities, and enjoying a great chit-chat during the photography session whilst also having fun! Learning all of this about the families that I photograph I believe gives me a great opportunity to capture photographs that are more natural and capture people's true personalities."
